As often, the musical year on the African scene was very rich. It was an opportunity for us to organize the fourth edition of the WANAMusic Awards, which will reward the best African artists in 2018 and to recall the main highlights of the year according to WANATeam. 11 prizes are awarded. We continue with the prize for the best female artist that we have awarded to Yemi Alade !

Please note : Awards are based on our perception of artists’ performance over the calendar year, i.e. from January 1 to December 31, 2018.

Best female artist of the year : Yemi Alade – Nigeria

Yemi Alade has been shining ever since it hatched in 2014. Even last year, when for the first time we didn’t reward her, she would have deserved to win. In 2018, no one was able to compete. But how can you blame your colleagues ? A little like in the video clip of “How I Feel”, she flies, then walks on the water and manages to build her legend from year to year.

The title “Bum Bum” was both his first and his biggest success in 2018 (about 18 million views). Of course, we do not forget his superb collaborations with the Ghanaian MzVee (she also wrote a great year 2018) in “Come and See My Moda” or with the Cameroonian Charlotte Dipanda in “Sista”. The coup de grâce came with the song “Oh My Gosh” which is one of our favourites of 2018. No doubt, she is the “Number One” !

Yemi Alade won the award in front of her compatriot Tiwa Savage, the Ghanaian MzVee, the Gabonese Shan’L and the Angolan Pongo.

In the list of winners, she succeeds Becca, the winner last year, and herself, who won the title in 2015 and 2016.
