As often, the musical year on the African scene was very rich. It was an opportunity for us to organize the fourth edition of the WANAMusic Awards, which will reward the best African artists in 2018 and to recall the main highlights of the year according to WANATeam. 11 prizes are awarded. We continue with the prize of the best video that we awarded to “New African Girl”, directed by David Nicol-sey !
Please note: Awards are based on our perception of artists’ performance over the calendar year, i.e. from January 1 to December 31, 2018.
Best video of the year : “New African Girl” – Fuse ODG ft. Kuami Eugene & KiDi, directed by David Nicol-sey – Ghana
It was not until the last few days of the year that we made this choice. Indeed, the video clip of “New African Girl” was only released on December 18th! But this video is a real artistic slap in its entirety. Headed by director David Nicol-sey, this video was shot in Akosombo, a town in southeastern Ghana, the country of origin of the director and the three authors of the song.
It is a real promotion of the place, where you can admire every detail in slow-motion. Everything is there: the beauty of the landscape, the clothes and women depicted and the contrast between the different elements is sensational. A clip that would make anyone want to settle in Akosombo. He embodies the famous “New Africa” advocated by Fuse ODG and the African genius that we promote: rich, creative and enterprising (promotion of the Nana Dolls dolls at 2 minutes 15 for example). Take a closer look…
“New African Girl” wins this award ahead of “Magun Remix” by Niniola and Busiswa (directed by Clarence Peters), “Shaku Shaku” by Afro B (directed by Visionary Pictures), “Sisi Maria” by Maleek Berry (directed by Unlimited L.A) and “Time To Party” by Flavour and Diamond Platnumz (directed by Patrick Elis).
In the list of winners, this clip follows D’Banj’s “Emergency” and Seyi Shay’s “Yolo Yolo”; winners of the prize in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
