Discovered by Mr. Eazi through his Empawa Africa project, J.Derobie has established himself as one of the musical revelations of the year in Africa. Presentation of this new Dancehall figure made in Ghana !

Paths and influences

Derrick Obuobi Junior, A.K.A J.Derobie, is an artist born in 1994 in Yendi in the Northern Region of Ghana. At the age of 13, he began to learn to dance and began to develop an interest in singing.

While he was starting a career as a rapper, it was members of his entourage who advised him to sing because he has a beautiful voice. Proof of a certain versatility.

His musical influences are modern and come mainly from Ghana (Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, R2Bees…) and Jamaica with notably Kranium and Popcaan.

Quickly approved by the cream of Dancehall !

The latter were won over by J. Derobie’s talent, and did not hesitate to share his very first hit “Poverty” (2019) on their social networks. Popcaan also recorded a remix of the song with its author.

Nothing would have been impossible without the support of Mr. Eazi, the man who detected his talent through his Empawa Africa project. This one aims to develop young African talent. At the moment, J. Derobie is one of the biggest to come out of this young cell.

Today, “Jay” is fully focused on his musical career, he who was still working while he was successful. His idea now is to do a series of hits like his mentor.
